Researchers have destroyed the myth of evil stepmothers

Canadian researchers in their review article reported that the stepmother in real life, not like the evil characters from fairy tales, on the contrary they help kids bounce back after divorce. The researchers presented their work in the journal of Divorce and Remarriage.

A team of scientists from the University of Athabasca believe that the opinion that all stepmothers are evil is a fallacy. The researchers found that the re-marriage of one parent helps to normalize the atmosphere in the family after the divorce. According to them, the myth of evil stepmothers rooted in the opinions of people after “Cinderella” by Charles Perrault.

The researchers analyzed dozens of articles about divorce and family conflicts. Articles were considered 115000 divorce cases in the UK involving almost 95,000 children under the age of 16.

Divorce has been associated with emotional, behavioural and psychological problems in children. They suffered from sleep disturbance, showed the aggression and resentment, in school they got worse.

Almost all of the stepmother involved in the study have reported that they felt more responsibility and tried to be warmer to treat the child, replacing the mother.
