Vasiliev proposes to reduce the number of graduate students in the Department to three

MOSCOW, April 11. /TASS/. Minister of education and science of the Russian Federation Olga Vasilieva said about the necessity of reducing the number of graduate students, by reducing them to two or three people in the Department.
“Graduate school should be a priority, she should really educate researchers. And it should not be a flow of 25 people, there should be two-three graduate students in the Department,” said today the Minister at the meeting with the staff and students of MGTU of a name of N. E. Bauman.
According to her, before a Ph. D. was a real event, and doctoral — “event of a lifetime.” “Here this should come back if you do science. We will be working on it,” — said Vasilyev.
In addition, the Minister added that the rector should have the power to personally allocate funded places in postgraduate study on specialities.
“Of course, the rector should have the right, at the head of the Department should have the right (solve — approx. TASS), as it always has, the number of graduate students where and what specialty to take,” — said Vasilyev, stressing that after training, the graduate should have the opportunity to defend themselves in their University.
