The day McCain held a meeting behind closed doors with the Prime Minister and elected President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, after which he held a short press conference. In his statement to the media, the Senator touched on the use of chemical weapons in Syria, accusing Damascus and Moscow. According to him, this issue should be first on the agenda during the expected 11-12 April visit of U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson in Russia.

“I hope that the visit of Secretary of state Tillerson in Moscow will lead to an agreement with Russia that she won’t let Syria use chemical weapons,” said the Senator.

McCain then listed that, he believes, should make the US administration to resolve the Syrian conflict.

“I am confident that the U.S. first needs to show Russians that such terrible crimes in the world today is unacceptable. Secondly, I have worked hard, we trained and equipped some of those who fight against (President Bashar al -) Assad. Thirdly, I would have prevented the Russian forces out of those parts of the country, unless they stop using this weapon. And then we need to organize peace talks, which should stop the conflict, in the course of which 420 thousand people were killed and 6 million refugees who filled Europe, including Serbia,” — said McCain.

“Conflict is necessary to bring the negotiations to a territory to Assad and (Russian President Vladimir) Putin understand that you can not win by military means”, — he concluded.
