The staff of the Museum “St. Isaac’s Cathedral” sent a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, asking him to suspend the transfer of Russian Orthodox Church (ROC). An open letter published on the website of the Museum.
“From the media, we know that the government of St. Petersburg, without the consent of You, preparing a “holiday” program of the Cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church in an expedited manner on 16 April 2017. Formally, it has the right to make this decision, but in this case the question is not about the city, and public property”, — said in the letter.
Staff also noted “the ambiguity of interpretation of the law № 327-FZ of 2010.”
“We ask You to pause the action to the consideration, discussion and decision about the peculiarities of its application in relation to facilities used by state agencies in the cultural order, including related to the category of world heritage of UNESCO”, — emphasized in the Museum.
Employees call the President “not only as the guarantor of the Law, but as a radical from Leningrad, who knows our city inside.”
It is reported that the appeal was adopted at the General meeting of the staff of the Museum unanimously, which was attended by 322 employee.
Earlier the electoral Committee of St.-Petersburg has registered the initiative group for the organization of a referendum about membership of St. Isaac’s Cathedral and approve the application.
In early January, Georgy Poltavchenko confirmed the transfer of St. Isaac’s Cathedral, the Russian Orthodox Church. The Vice-Governor Mikhail Mokretsov has declared that Petersburg remains legally the owner of the building of the Cathedral.
