The state Department called for the release of detained participants of illegal actions in Russia

According to the acting head of the press service of the US state Department Mark Toner, the US plans to monitor the situation.

WASHINGTON, March 27. /Offset. TASS Boris Makarov/. The United States condemned the detention of the participants of uncoordinated protest actions in several cities of Russia and journalists and urged the authorities to release them.

“The United States strongly condemn the detention on Sunday of hundreds of innocent demonstrators across Russia, — he said. — The detention of peaceful protesters, human rights defenders and journalists does not meet key democratic values.”

“We received with concern information about the detention of opposition leader Alexei Navalny on arrival at the demonstration, and that the organizations involved in the fight against corruption was carried out police raids,” added Toner.

“The United States will monitor the situation. In addition, we encourage the Russian government to immediately release all peaceful demonstrators”, — he concluded.

Yesterday in several cities of Russia, including in Moscow and St. Petersburg, were uncoordinated action, which the organizers declared aim of “fight against corruption”.
