KIEV, March 23. /TASS/. Rescue operations to localize and extinguish the fire at an ammunition depot near Balakleya of Kharkov region can take more than three days. This was announced on Thursday by Advisor to the Minister of internal Affairs of Ukraine Ivan Varchenko.

“Judging by the scale and intensity of the explosions, hoped today to go home, Balakleya not worth it. The situation remains dangerous,” said Varchenko. According to him, “localization of the fire and explosions can last from 2-3 days or more,” he wrote on his page on the social network Facebook.

Due to the expansion of the area covered by the fire of the Ukrainian defense Ministry decided to increase the number of personnel involved in activities to block the dangerous area around a fire in Balakliya. “Even up to 300 military APU will strengthen the division that already carry out tasks on the scene,” — said the Minister Stepan Poltorak.

Press Secretary of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko Svyatoslav Tsigalko said that the border security zone and evacuation of the population in Balaklavska area was increased to 10 kilometers. All have been evacuated about 20 thousand people.

A fire at a military depot in Balaklavska district of Kharkiv region occurred at about 04:00 GMT.
