At the UN General Assembly honored the memory of Vitaly Churkin
UN, 21 Mar — RIA Novosti, Olga Denisova. The memory of Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin honored at the General Assembly of the United Nations. Commemorative meeting of representatives of States members of the world organization began with a minute of silence.
The General Assembly on Tuesday held a special session in memory of died on 20 February, the permanent representative of Russia. Opening the meeting, the members of the UNGA paid tribute to the memory of Vitaly Churkin moment of silence. The UN Secretary General called the Russian Ambassador “one of a kind outstanding dilemata, a man of many talents and interests and personality, friendship touched many of us.” Guterres, who headed the UN on 1 January this year, noted that “quickly realized amazing diplomatic skills,” the Russian representative.
“Rest in peace, the earth to you down,” said Guterres in Russian.
“Today is exactly a month since we held the first meeting of the Security Council, without UN Vitaly Churkin. His absence at the Council table we still felt,” shared the UK’s permanent representative to the UN Matthew Rycroft.
The GA was attended by Russian Ambassador to US Sergey Kislyak and the widow of Vitaly Churkin Irina and their son Maxim.
Churkin died on 20 February, the day before your 65th birthday. Since 8 April 2006, he served as the permanent representative of Russia to the UN in new York, was the representative of the Russian Federation in the UN Security Council. He was buried on 24 February in Moscow.
