Poroshenko called the election results in the Netherlands a victory over populism
MOSCOW, 16 Mar — RIA Novosti. The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko congratulated the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte with the victory of his people’s party for freedom and democracy in recent parliamentary elections and stated that elections in the Netherlands are an example for all democracies, how to defeat populism.
By results of calculation of 75% of votes at the election of the leader of the people’s party for freedom and democracy (VVD) (32 seats out of 150 in Parliament), headed by the current Prime Minister mark Rutte. The second place (20 seats) goes to the far-right freedom Party (PVV) led by Geert Wilders in third place with a slight lag in one voice divide “Christian democratic appeal” and “Democrats-66”.
“I congratulate the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte victory in the parliamentary elections. An example for all democracies, how to defeat populism”, — wrote Poroshenko on Twitter.
He added that he hoped the ratification of the Association agreement with Ukraine. The Netherlands is the only EU country which has not yet ratified this agreement. The contract is valid on a provisional basis, the final document will enter into force after its ratification by all 28 EU countries.
