Media: the United States intends to cut spending to the UN more than half

WASHINGTON, March 14. /Offset. TASS Andrey Shitov/. The US state Department have been instructed to demand the reduction of the contribution of Washington in the programme budget of the UN more than half. The Washington Foreign Policy magazine specializing in the coverage of foreign policy issues, reported on Monday, citing its own “three sources”.

The publication said that currently, “the US spends on the UN about $10 billion a year.”

The journal assesses these intentions of the Republican administration of Donald trump as “an unprecedented retreat from international operations, helping to maintain the peace, ensure the vaccination of children, to monitor unauthorized nuclear weapons programs, and promote peaceful negotiations in different areas — from Syria to Yemen”.

The author recalls that on Thursday in Washington must be submitted to the new draft Federal budget of the United States, “which is expected to include a reduction in the amount of up to 37% of the costs for the Department of state, Agency for international development U.S. and other foreign aid, including (financing) of the United Nations”.
