Media: the Kurds were promised support in deciding the fate of Syria in exchange for Raqqa

MOSCOW, 13 Mar — RIA Novosti. The participation of Kurds in the liberation of Raqqa from the Syrian terrorist group “Islamic state” (banned in Russia) suggests that they are guaranteed support from outside in deciding the fate of Syria, wrote on Monday newspaper “Izvestia” citing a source in the Russian foreign Ministry.

Senator Alexey Klimov fears that support for the Kurds from the US could threaten the integrity of Syria.

The democratic forces of Syria, mainly Kurds and local Arab tribes, leading the operation for the liberation of Raqqa from ISIS. They are supported by Western coalition forces led by the United States.

“The claims of the Kurds in Raqqa and expanding their controlled territories beyond the borders of Kurdistan — evidence of external influence”, write “Izvestia”, citing a source in the foreign Ministry.

“The military need to take out a city the Kurds have not. They are particularly interested in the area within the borders of Kurdistan. The fact of their promotion suggests that they are guaranteed the opportunity to defend their rights in the subsequent device of Syria”, — said the Agency interlocutor at the foreign Ministry.

According to the Deputy head of the international Committee of the Federation Council Alexey Klimov, support of the Kurds from the United States can put on the agenda the question of the division of Syria.

“The United States effectively play the Kurdish card. Washington is actively strengthening its position there. In this situation, there is a danger that the agenda will be the question of division of Syria into several so-called sovereign States, since the bet on one ethnic group is fraught with negative consequences,” — said the Senator “news”.

Raqqa, located in Northern Syria (160 kilometres East of Aleppo) on the banks of the Euphrates, there live about 300 thousand people. The city was captured by militants in 2013. After the transition into the hands of terrorists, government forces tried to recapture the town, but to no avail. In 2014, the Syrian army has lost control of the entire raqqa province.
