In the UK there is now a Minister in the counter-Subversion

Ben Gummer

Prime Minister Theresa may has appointed Ben Gummer Minister to combat subversive activities. About it reports The Times.

The functions of the new officials will include implementation of “a broad effort in the part of the government to protect the integrity of the British democratic life.” As specifies the edition, the appearance of the new Minister is directly related to the concerns of the British authorities that the Russian cyber attacks, fake news and money can destabilise democracy in the country.

In connection with the holding of parliamentary elections, subordinates Gummer, in particular, intend to carry out testing of computer systems and networks of the political parties of the United Kingdom in terms of their vulnerability and ability to resist “hostile cyberactivity”.

2 November last year the official representative of Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said the statement by the Director of the British MI5, Andrew Parker that he sees Russia as a threat to the stability of the UK. In particular, she turned to Parker with a question about whether he thinks the appointment to the post of Minister of foreign Affairs of great Britain Boris Johnson the handiwork of the Kremlin.

The day before Parker in an interview with The Guardian said that Russia uses a number of state bodies to advance its foreign policy abroad increasingly aggressive methods, including propaganda, espionage, sabotage, and cyber attacks. Official Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov explained in this regard that while any has not lead any evidence of Russian involvement in cyber attacks, any statement, whether the head of MI-5, Vice-President of the United States or other responsible person will be considered to be unfounded and unjustified
