The official representative of Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said that the statement of the Pentagon about the deployment of a Russian cruise missile ground-based “backed by nothing and only cause disappointment.” It is reported by RIA Novosti.

During the briefing, Zakharov noted that the foreign Ministry drew attention to the recent accusations made by the American General in violation of the Treaty on intermediate-range nuclear forces (INF). “Such statements, of course, disappointing, it’s not a new story. In particular, it would finally explain where the Americans saw our violation and why they came to such conclusions,” she said.

According to Zakharov, in response to Moscow’s demands to provide evidence of the deployment of the missile States to offer the “guess yourself”. Foreign Ministry spokesman reminded that the previously unheard of similar accusations against Russia have never been substantiated. She stressed that Russia has repeatedly affirmed the commitment to this contract.

This week, Deputy chiefs of General staff of the armed forces of the USA Paul Selva said that Russia has deployed a ballistic missile land-based, violating the INF Treaty. According to Selva, the missile poses a threat to most objects of NATO in Europe. He noted that Washington has already discussed this issue with Moscow, but on the results of negotiations Selva said nothing. The General only said that the Pentagon “was asked to be a number of things in the review of nuclear doctrines”.

The INF Treaty was signed in 1987 by Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev and his American counterpart Ronald Reagan. The document says that the countries are unable to test and deploy cruise and ballistic land-based missiles of medium (1,000 to 5,500 kilometers) and shorter (500 to 1,000 kilometers) range.
