The humanitarian crisis in four countries — Yemen, Nigeria, Somalia and South Sudan was the most significant since the creation of the United Nations in 1945. According to him, the world is at a critical juncture of history. “At the beginning of the year we faced the largest humanitarian crisis since the creation of the UN. Currently, more than 20 million people in four countries are threatened by famine. Without collective and coordinated global effort because the people will starve, many others will suffer and die from diseases”, — quotes its statement to the Agency.
O’brien said that if the international community will leave what is happening without the attention that the planet faces a new wave of refugees, which may lead to the emergence of more instability in the entire region.

Stephen O’brien added that assistance to prevent fighting and the reluctance of the warring parties to cooperate with humanitarian missions. In turn, Deputy permanent representative to the UN Vladimir Safronkov expressed concern about the humanitarian situation in the mentioned countries.
