The deployment of ABM systems THAAD in South Korea can trigger an arms race in the region and complicate the solution of the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula.
This is stated in the statement of the MFA of Russia.
“Such a development could have very serious negative consequences for international and regional strategic stability. In Asia Pacific, where there is a difficult situation in the security sphere, there is a new destructive factor that could further complicate the solution of nuclear and other problems of the Korean Peninsula, to provoke the region’s arms race, including the rocket,” — said in the message.
Earlier, China urged the US to stop the deployment of missile defense in South Korea.
On 7 March it became known that the United States has begun the deployment of missile defense systems THAAD in South Korea.
