Us Senator John McCain expressed approval in connection with the arrest of the dismissed head of the state fiscal service of Ukraine Roman Nasirov. On Saturday, March 11, reports RIA Novosti, citing a statement by Republican.
“The arrest on charges of theft of Roman Nasirov, the chief tax specialist of Ukraine and Director of the state fiscal service is a positive step forward for the Ukrainian government in the fight against corruption,” the Senator said. In his opinion, the arrest Nasirova — the example of successful anti-corruption Bureau of Ukraine.
“I welcome the progress the government of Ukraine and encourage it to continue anti-corruption efforts,” said McCain.
March 7, Solomenskiy district court of Kiev arrested for two months, the dismissed head of the state fiscal service of Ukraine Roman Nasirov. It can be released on bail in the amount of 100 million hryvnia (about us $ 3.7 million).
The official is suspected in the case of the Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Onishchenko, accused of embezzling state property in especially large sizes. The investigators believe that the former chief tax specialist of Ukraine abused office and stole over 70 million dollars of public funds.
After an attempted arrest on March 3, the defendant was hospitalized with a heart attack. Earlier in the day, the Ukrainian government removed him from office during the investigation.
Nasirov is contained in Lukyanovka jail in Kiev.
