McCain pleased with the arrest of the head of fiscal service of Ukraine
WASHINGTON, March 11 — RIA Novosti, Alexei Bogdanovsky. Influential US Senator John McCain approved the arrest of the dismissed head of the state fiscal service of Ukraine Roman Nasirov.
“The arrest on charges of theft of Roman Nasirov, the chief tax specialist of Ukraine and Director of the state fiscal service is a positive step forward for the Ukrainian government in the fight against corruption,” the statement said McCain. According to him, the arrest Nasirova was the success of the national anti-corruption Bureau of Ukraine.
“Stability and success of Ukraine in the long term depends on its commitment to reforms, including strengthening the rule of law and fight against corruption. I welcome the progress the government of Ukraine and encourage it to continue anti-corruption efforts,” said McCain.
Previously, the Solomensky district court of Kiev arrested the dismissed head of the state fiscal service of Ukraine Roman Nasirov for two months with possibility of bail in the amount of 100 million hryvnia (about us $ 3.7 million).
Earlier, the head of the fiscal service became a suspect in the case of the Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Oleksandr Onishchenko, who is accused under article “plunder of the state property in especially large sizes”. According to the lawyer, Nasirov is suspected of abuse of office and embezzlement of state funds amounting to more than $ 70 million. After excitation of criminal case Nasirov was hospitalized. The third March the Cabinet of Ministers removed him from office during the investigation.
According to the court, Nasirov will be detained since the proclamation of this decision and to the payment of the Deposit, if any will be made.
The court decision can be appealed in appellate court of Kiev. Protection Nasirov has stated that it intends to appeal the decision. Nasirov is Lukyanovka jail in Kiev.
