In Egypt found the statue of Ramses II
Archaeologists from Egypt and Germany found out stuck in groundwater statue of the Egyptian Pharaoh. It is assumed that it depicts Ramses II, The Guardian reports.
Excavations have happened in Cairo, in the place where before was located the ancient Egyptian city of Heliopolis. Near the ruins of the temple of Ramses II, a group of archaeologists managed to get out of the land of the fragments of the bust and head of a giant sculpture. The size of the statue of the Pharaoh is eight meters, it is made of rocks quartzite.

Ramses II, or Ozymandias, is one of the most famous rulers in the history of mankind. The period of his reign is dated XIII century BC.

The importance of archaeological finds is corroborated by the image of the Pharaoh, formed in Western culture: in 1817 the English poet Percy Bysshe Shelley dedicated to him his famous sonnet “Ozymandias”.

During the time Shelley was found, presumably another fragment of the same statue of Ramses II, was the inspiration for his poem.
