Minsk will expose the Moscow account if the Kremlin will continue to remind Belarus of its dependence on Russian gas. This statement was made by the President of the Republic Alexander Lukashenko. The experts commented on how great the likelihood of such actions by the Belarusian authorities. The words of experts reports “Moskovsky Komsomolets”.

“His attacks Lukashenka hopes to prove the ruling in Belarus’s political elite that he is still able to achieve from Moscow, continue annual transfers to the Belarusian economy 8-9 billion dollars, without which the country will worsen the crisis”, – said Deputy Dean of the faculty of world economy Higher school of Economics Andrei Suzdaltsev.

According to Suzdaltsev, in order for these claims is not like extortion, Lukashenko often recalls the enormous losses of the Belarusian people during the great Patriotic war. Lukashenko is sure that Belarus remains the last ally of Moscow in the West. Suzdaltsev noted that such geopolitical situation does not mean that Belarusians will “put his feet on the table.” The actions of Lukashenko expert calls “a blatant bluff.” The Dean stressed that in Belarus there are no Russian military bases, the transit of gas through territory of the Republic control of the company, owned by Gazprom, but from a potential military opponent Minsk to defend Russia can not.

“The main trump card Lukashenko — it’s a painful reaction of Russia on the geopolitical distancing of Belarus from Moscow. It will require from Russia the maximum price for this partnership, while continuing to exploit its Imperial complexes. Lukashenko has been doing this for more than 20 years, and Moscow has always paid its bills,” – said the expert of the analytical center “Strategy” Valery, Karbalevich.

Karbalevich also added that Minsk is able to increase the value of oil and gas transit through its territory. The expert expressed confidence that all these aspects are discussed by the parties in the negotiations, as both Minsk and Moscow are interested in compromise.

March 9, Alexander Lukashenko said that the Belarusian authorities want from Russia is not cheap gas, and the fulfillment of allied obligations. The President of the Republic was a reaction to the words of the Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev that “some countries” receive Russian gas at discounted prices through membership in the Eurasian economic Union. The Prime Minister added that in the case of enterprises, these countries will be forced to pay for gas at European prices.
