The head of the Federation Council Committee on defense and security Viktor Ozerov, called the placement of US missile defense system THAAD in South Korea a violation of the terms of Dogovor on the reduction of strategic offensive arms (SNV-3). On Tuesday, March 7, according to RIA Novosti.
“This placement is a violation of the balance referred to in the contract on SNV-3. This missile is one of the conditions of Russia’s withdrawal from the agreement, spelled out in the text,” said lake, adding that Moscow is not interested in such a solution, but will analyze it depending on the severity of the threat from the new US missile defense system.
Earlier in the same day it became known that the United States began deploying the first elements of missile defense in South Korea. According to Reuters, the process will be over in a month or two, it will begin to function in April.
System THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense) is designed for high-altitude interception missiles with a medium range. The THAAD battery will consist of anti-missile radar AN/TPY-2 TM and six launchers with 48 missiles-interceptors.
