The accusations against Russia of violating the INF Treaty was considered groundless

Viktor Ozerov

Moscow strictly adheres to all provisions of the Treaty on the elimination of intermediate-range nuclear forces (INF). On Thursday, March 9, said the head of the Federation Council Committee on defense and security Viktor Ozerov, reports RIA Novosti.

Thus the Senator commented on the words of the Chairman of the joint chiefs of staff of the Armed forces of the United States General Paul Selva about the fact that Russia allegedly deploys cruise missiles for the sake of creating threats to the NATO.

“Russia strictly follows the agreement signed in 1987 by Mikhail Gorbachev, although, according to our leadership, the decision was then taken not in the interests of the Soviet Union and then Russia, especially given the fact that the US is deploying its missile launchers and missile defense systems in some European countries”, — said Russian Senator.

He added that, in putting forward the charges, the American side has not presented any evidence. “Even presenting the facts of these violations. Groundless talk we’ve heard enough lately,” — said Ozerov.

Selva said that Russia has deployed cruise missiles ground-based 8 March, speaking at the hearings Committee of the house of representatives of the US armed forces.

According to the contract on liquidation of rockets of average and small range the US and Russia can’t produce, test and deploy ballistic and cruise land-based missiles of medium (1,000 to 5,500 kilometers) and small (from 500 to 1,000 kilometers) range. Moscow has repeatedly stated that the possibility of withdrawal from the Treaty could be seen as a response to the expansion of the American ABM.
