The presidential Council on human rights (HRC) has launched the work of the expert Council on human rights education and civic education; the new structure will assess existing programmes and will establish an expert platform for discussion of problems in the field of public legal education, the website of the HRC.
Friday held the first meeting of the temporary working group “Expert Council for human rights education and civil enlightenment”. The participants agreed on the coordination of activities and defined work plan for the coming year. The working group was formed at the meeting of the Presidium of the HRC on February 13.
“The first thing we will do is we will assess the programmes for human rights education in the country. We will ask the organizers of the various schools to provide us with their programmes for assessing substantive and methodological implications. This will be worked out for different criteria,” — said during the meeting, the HRC member Irina Kirkor, who initiated the creation of the group.
Another objective of the new structure will be “creating expert platform on discussion of problems in the field of public legal education”, as noted on the website of the HRC.
“Attention will be directed also to overcome regional barriers to opening or in the current activities of the human rights schools. A number of specialist lawyers have already confirmed their willingness to address these issues and became part of the group of experts”, — stated in the message.
Chairman of the working group was Irina Kirkor, the group includes members of the HRC Sergey Krivenko, Yana Lantratova, Tamara Morshchakova, Mara Polyakova, Vladimir Ryakhovsky, Anita Soboleva, Andrey Yurov, as well as experts from other organizations, including a member of the Moscow Helsinki group Vyacheslav Bakhmin, Director of the Sakharov center Sergei Lukaszewski, Professor, Department of professional development of pedagogical workers of the Moscow city pedagogical University Andrey Ioffe and others.
