The General staff of Russia and NATO held talks for the first time in two years

The chief of the General staff of armed forces Valery Gerasimov held a telephone conversation with the Chairman of the Military Committee of the Alliance by Peter pavela for the first time in two years after NATO’s decision to freeze relations with Russia. The initiator of the talks was the NATO Committee, RIA Novosti reported.

Gerasimov and Paul discussed the problem of security recovery prospects of cooperation in military sphere and preventing incidents. Also the chief of the General staff said that Russia is concerned about the marked increase in activity of NATO near its borders.

In addition, Gerasimov told about the main international events, and exercises Agency in 2017. The sides agreed on mutual steps that will help to reduce tensions in Europe. Also Gerasimov and Paul agreed to maintain contact.

To suspend cooperation with Russia, NATO decided in 2014 on the background of the crisis in Ukraine. The Alliance has maintained political dialogue with Russia at the ambassadorial level and above.
