The Ministry of Finance submitted to the state Duma a bill to ban the sale in Russia of certain categories of goods coming from the countries of the Eurasian economic Union (EEU). This was reported on the website of the Russian government.

If the law passes, the government can prohibit the circulation of goods, which are imported from third countries according to rules different from those specified in the EEU. In particular this will relate to goods, the import of which paid customs duties at rates which differ from those established by the common customs tariff of the EEU rates.

The authors of the bill believe that their document will allow to raise efficiency of control over the circulation banned in Russia products.

In 2014, after the annexation of Crimea to Russia, the US, EU and several other Western countries imposed economic sanctions against Russia. Russia responded to the West of the food embargo. The ban covers the import of meat and dairy products, fish and seafood, vegetables, fruits, berries and nuts. In addition, from 1 January 1, 2016, Moscow imposed a food embargo against Ukraine.
