The commander of the Russian group in Syria, Colonel-General Andrei Kartapolov, the TV channel “Russia 24” announced details of the release of Palmyra, reports RIA Novosti.
“I would like to emphasize the actions of our Air and space forces (VKS), which denied the enemy the ability to maneuver and deliver reserves, the actions of the units of the special operations forces of the Russian Armed forces, which conducted reconnaissance and was struck by the most important objects”, — said the commander.
He also noted the courage and dedication of the officers and soldiers of the Syrian army.
The release of Palmyra from the militants banned the “Islamic state”, the Minister of defense Sergei Shoigu reported on 2 March. The offensive of the Syrian army, with the support of Russia began in early February.
