The court convicted ex-Deputy Director of “Aeroflot” Glushkov in the theft of $123 million

MOSCOW, March 3. /TASS/. Savelovsky court of Moscow issued a guilty verdict against former Deputy General Director of “Aeroflot” financial officer Nikolai Glushkov, finding him guilty of defrauding the airline of nearly $123 million in the second half of 1990-ies, the correspondent of TASS.

The court began the sentencing with the statement of acknowledgement of proof of the charges against Glushkov, who is in the UK. The punishment for him will be named in the final part of the judicial act.

The state Prosecutor asked to sentence Glushkov to eight years of imprisonment in a General regime colony and a fine of 1 million rubles. Also, the Prosecutor asked to satisfy a civil claim of “Aeroflot” for the sum of $122 million (9 billion rubles taking into account inflation).

In turn, the protection of Glushkov petitioned for the return of the case to the Prosecutor to resume the investigation.

Glushkov was charged under part 4. article 159 of the criminal code (“Fraud committed in especially large size”). The trial against him is held in absentia, as long Glushkov left Russia and, according to some, resides in the UK.

According to investigators, Glushkov in a criminal group with Boris Berezovsky in the period from April 1996 to April 1999, convinced at that time the head of “Aeroflot” Yevgeny Shaposhnikov to take out large monetary loans ostensibly for financial recovery of the company. In fact, money in the amount of $122,654 million was stolen.
