The Syrian army drove the militants out of the historic citadel of Palmyra
DAMASCUS, Mar 1 — RIA Novosti, Mikhail Alaeddin. The Syrian army and her allied troops liberated the historic citadel of Palmyra from the militants of the terrorist group “Islamic state” (IG, is prohibited in Russia), told RIA Novosti informed source in place.
“The army regained control of the citadel in Palmyra and a range of mountains in the South-West. Now preparing to storm the city”, — said the Agency interlocutor.
According to the source, terrorists with fights retreated from the heights where the citadel is located, after the army had occupied the heights above the city.
One of the commanders has told RIA Novosti that the government forces with the support of the militia had already established full control of the fire Palmyra.
The commander noted that the city “is at a stone’s throw from the Syrian army,” which is rapidly moving in this direction.
