A US court sentenced Russian citizen Seleznev to 27 years for fraud
The Russian citizen Roman Seleznev, accused by U.S. authorities of fraud, sentenced to 27 years in prison, according to the newspaper the Seattle Times.
According to the newspaper, according to the prosecution, Seleznev “earned at least $170 million for the theft of more than 2 million credit card numbers, selling them on the black market.” Federal Prosecutor considers that Seleznev is “one of the world’s leading providers of stolen credit card data”.

Seleznev was charged with 40 criminal counts under four articles — of fraud, intentional damage to a protected computer, obtaining information from a protected computer, possession of over 15 unauthorized devices to access secure computer networks, theft of personal information under aggravating circumstances.
According to the U.S. Department of justice, Seleznev, as well as members of the criminal group, where he was from October 2009 to February 2011, installing malicious software on payment processing terminals at restaurants in 11 States. These programs read the data of the credit cards that the members of the group later sold at special sites.
They receive money through payment systems, including Bitcoin, MoneyGram and Western Union, “with the purpose to cover their tracks”. In addition, Seleznev “created a website with instructions on how to use the card numbers to obtain benefits.”
Seleznev pleaded guilty. Previously, he wrote a 11-page letter in which he expressed remorse and willingness in the future to use their knowledge and experience to prevent cyber attacks and to combat cybercrime. The letter also brought the man some details of his life, which, according to him, pushed him to engage in hacking and the Commission of crimes.
The son of the Deputy of the state Duma from LDPR Valery Seleznev, was arrested in early July 2014 in the Maldives, and later delivered to the American island of GUAM, and then to Seattle. The Russian foreign Ministry and the Deputy Seleznev called the arrest of Roman Seleznyov’s kidnapping and unfriendly step towards Russia.
