The head of the Commission for education, culture and science of legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg Maxim Reznik filed an appeal to the Prosecutor General of Russia Yuri Chaika asking to check the legality of the transfer of St. Sampson Cathedral of Russian Orthodox Church (ROC). The Ministry of culture commented on the issue, saying that the transfer is fully legal, reports “Interfax”.

Resnick notes that the transfer violated the law “About Museum Fund of the Russian Federation and museums in Russian Federation”, allowing you to transfer Museum objects of the property only in the case of using them for another purpose or the liquidation of the Museum. When transferring Sampson Cathedral, part of the Museum complex St Isaac’s Cathedral, had no such grounds, I’m sure Resnick.

“The interior [of the Cathedral], the items in February was donated to the diocese. Violations of the law “About Museum Fund” in this case is absent”, — noted in the Ministry of culture.

Sampsonievsky Cathedral in St. Petersburg was officially handed over to the ROC on 5 February 2017. The ceremony began with the Holy mass. Then Director of the Museum complex St Isaac’s Cathedral Nikolay Burov gave the keys of the temple Archimandrite Seraphim (Screw).
