The state Duma has approved raising the retirement age of officials

The state Duma approved in first reading a bill to extend the service life of the regional officials from 65 to 70 years. It is reported RIA Novosti on Wednesday, April 19.

The relevant amendments are proposed to the law “On state civil service of the Russian Federation”. From January 2017, the same rules apply to Federal officials from among the leaders (heads of departments and offices, their deputies and staff).

On April 14, the Committee on the Federal device and questions of local government recommended the lower chamber of the Parliament to adopt the draft law. One of the authors of the document, first Deputy Chairman of the Stavropol Duma Dmitry Sudovtsov believes that if older officials can compete with the young, that they should be allowed to work.

The bill also received positive feedback from the legal Department of the state Duma, the Council of legislators (he was supported by 18 of the subjects) and the government.

From 1 January in Russia came into effect the law “On insurance pensions”, increasing the age of retirement for civil servants. The law raised the age of retirement for persons occupying state positions of Russia and its constituent entities and municipal service positions. The increase will happen in stages, for six months a year. The retirement age for men is planned to raise to 65 years, and for women to 63 years.

Now the retirement age in Russia is 60 for men and 55 years for women.
