In South Ossetia began presidential elections
TSKHINVALI, April 9 — RIA Novosti. All 77 polling stations in the presidential elections in South Ossetia opened at 08.00 local time (same as GMT), told RIA Novosti Secretary of the CEC of the Republic of Kristina Vlahova.
Candidates for the highest office of the country was the current President Leonid Tibilov, speaker of Parliament Anatoly Bibilov and KGB officer Alan Gagloev. They all advocate the further strengthening of relations with Russia.
“Each of the 72 plot on the territory of South Ossetia and five outside the Republic were opened at the appointed time,” said Vlahova. Outside the country, one precinct opened at the embassies in Moscow and Sukhum, two in Consulate of South Ossetia in Vladikavkaz and one in the Prigorodny district of North Ossetia. The areas will be closed at 20.00 local time.
In addition to the presidential elections in South Ossetia held a referendum about renaming of the Republic in the State of Alania
Thus, each voter gets two ballots. Voters have a right to vote against all candidates on a post of the head of state.
Election observation involves about 80 foreign observers, including from the Duma, the Federation Council and the Central election Commission of the Russian Federation, Abkhazia, the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh and the Transnistrian Moldavian Republic, as well as the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk national republics.
According to the CEC, the Republic was 32,736 thousand voters. The threshold turnout is 50% plus one vote. To win a candidate must gain more than 50% of the vote.
