Fedotov urged to return to the question of the security of the press on mass actions

The head of the presidential Council on human rights (HRC) Mikhail Fedotov after Sunday uncoordinated rallies considers it necessary to return to the question of how to ensure the safety of journalists working on an assignment at mass rallies.

Representatives of the HRC Andrei Babushkin and Kirill Kabanov watched over the observance of citizens ‘ rights during an unsanctioned rally, which took place on Sunday on Tverskaya street in Moscow. Council member Igor Borisov on the eve watched the progress of similar events in the field of Mars in St. Petersburg. In comments to RIA Novosti on Sunday, Kabanov described the actions of the police in the course of the action as correct, despite the large number of arrests. Borisov noted that in the Northern capital, all was quiet and without incident.

Fedotov on Monday recalled that on the eve in the course of the unauthorized shares had been detained several journalists.

“We have no exact data about their number, names and affiliation to specific media. The only journalist that we can say for sure that he was detained in the performance of professional duties, Alexander is ivy from the office of radio station “Echo of Moscow”, — said the Chairman of the HRC.

In his opinion, this case should be an occasion to re-discuss security issues of journalists working at public events.

“I think we need to get back to the question of how to ensure the safety of journalists working in mass campaigns. And it would be great if the Union of journalists of Moscow provided all journalists working in such conditions, special identification jackets,” said Fedotov.

“It would be good also if the police departments started the rule — deliver when the detainees from the place of holding an unsanctioned public actions, the first question should be: “if any of you are journalists, carrying out editorial assignment?” Of course, if the journalists are found, they should be immediately released and should be apologized”, — said the Agency interlocutor.

Unsanctioned rally was held Sunday in Central Moscow. On Tverskaya street and the adjacent territories, according to police estimates, there were about 7-8 thousand people. The head of Department of regional security and combating corruption Moscow Vladimir Tchernikov has told RIA Novosti that they detained more than 600 people. In the course of the action one police officer received a head injury.

Acting head of Department on interaction with mass media of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Svetlana Petrenko said that the UK has information on the proposals of the remuneration in the case of detention for participation in this action. According to her, this information will check in the investigation criminal case on hooliganism and attacks on police officers.
