In Moscow starts the week of Irish culture
MOSCOW, 15 Mar — RIA Novosti. Tenth anniversary festival of Irish culture, which will involve film screenings, concerts and a parade in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, starts in Moscow on Wednesday and will last until March 26.
“We are pleased that the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) officially recognized the Day of St. Patrick, our national Saint. It will be celebrated in Russia on March 30, and we are pleased that for two reasons: first, because Russia honors St. Patrick as we did for many centuries, and second, because this news came in handy for the opening of the festival”, — told reporters the Ambassador of Ireland in Russia Adrian McDade.
According to him, the festival is held in Moscow for the tenth time, a parade in honor of St. Patrick — 25th, this year it will be March 18 in the Park “Sokolniki”. The parade will be headed by Irish musicians and street theater artists. According to the organizers of the festival immediately after the parade, all participants will be able to go to the gala festival “Day and Night St. Patrick’s day” in the “Izvestia Hall”, where they will wait for the music and dancing. At the gala concert of the best folk-rock band from Russia and Ireland: REALTA, LEIF, Waldorf & Cannon, John Delargy & Streams of whiskey from Ireland, “Tintal”, “Troll Bends Fir”, St. Patrick’s Brigade, a band of Scottish bagpipers City Pipes, Folk Fiction, as well as Irish dance Iridan show, Ars Longa, Folkdance, Ceilidh and iDance.
As the Director of the festival Anna Gryaznova, the film program this year will be one of the most interesting in the history of the festival. So, on Wednesday he opens the film by John Carney’s “sing street”, which this year was nominated for a Golden globe, also in the retrospective included a picture of this same Director, who opened the first Irish film festival in Moscow in 2008 — “One day”. The film received more than 80 nominations and awards, including the award “Oscar” for best song and was nominated for a Grammy for best soundtrack. Moreover, viewers will show the documentary “Steep turn” on Irish racing driver “Formula 1” Tommy Byrne, the Comedy “Awful”, drama, “the Siege Radovis picture” and “South”. The program includes 11 feature films and two collections of short films — feature and animated films.
