Facebook banned the use of user data for surveillance
The company Facebook has banned developers to use stored in the social network user information for purposes of surveillance. The company said that thus clarify its existing policy.
“Developers can’t use the information collected to create tools for surveillance,” the company said.
Last year the American Union of protection of civil liberties found out that the company Facebook and its Instagram unit transmit user data, the company Geofeedia, which is developing products for surveillance capabilities for law enforcement.
Thus the police were able to monitor protesters at rallies and events, including during protests in Ferguson.
After this company ceased to provide the Geofeedia data access.
In Facebook assured that took action against developers building or selling apps for monitoring.
“Our goal is to make our policies clearly,” — said the Deputy head of the security company Rob Sherman.
