“You probably know that we have is the replacement of the spire on the building of the foreign Ministry. So, we took the old spire, sawed into 900 small pieces, and arrange these pieces as Souvenirs. Of course, we asked in advance what will happen with this metal. It turned out, he was absolutely unusable — corrosion and so forth,” she said.
According to Zakharova, was “the unique limited series” of 900 small pieces, “each of which is authentic, has its own form”.
Foreign Ministry spokesman also said that the new spire is almost ready. “Now there’s only a veneer. All will be returned in full. Only be used new, modern materials, so far as I know, the design will be almost a third lighter then previous,” — said Zakharov.
Work to replace the spire on the roof of the building of the foreign Ministry of Russia began in the end of September 2016. The Director of the Department of capital construction and property agencies abroad Vladimir Potapkin told that repair was possible after family of peregrine falcons that lived on the hill.
The reconstruction of the building is scheduled for completion by 2017.
The building of the Ministry of foreign Affairs is one of seven skyscrapers built in Moscow in 1950-ies. Its project was prepared by architects Vladimir gelfreikh and Mikhail Minkus. In 1951, the curator of the building, a member of the Politburo, Beria instructed to change the upper part of the house. Architects and builders had to install spire on an already finished building.
