Assad: the erroneous policy of the EU towards Syria led to the spread of terrorism
BEIRUT, March 12. /Offset. TASS Dmitry Zelenin/. The wave of terrorist attacks in the West “is the result of misguided policies of several European countries towards Syria and the Middle East.” This was stated on Sunday, the President of Syria Bashar al-Assad.
He met in Damascus with Vice-Chairman of the foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament Javier Couso and the delegation accompanying him.
As noted by Asad, “Europe, which have imposed unjust sanctions against Damascus, today is reaping the fruits of their appeasement of terrorists in Syria.” According to him, the resettlement of refugees to EU countries was also a result of this misguided policy.
The Syrian leader described his frequent visits to Damascus by European parliamentarians as a sign of public awakening in the West, which, according to him, was misled by the media regarding events in Syria. “They (MPs) want to see Syrian realities and to convey a true picture of their people”, — he stressed.
COSO, as reported by news Agency SANA, during the meeting with Assad, called for the restoration of diplomatic relations between Syria and the EU, which were severed in 2011. He noted that he would seek the lifting of economic sanctions which affected the Syrian people.
Earlier at a press conference the head of delegation had condemned on Saturday the attacks in the old part of Damascus, which resulted in the deaths of tens of pilgrims who came to worship the Muslim Holy sites.
