The President of the European Council elected by qualified majority of the members of the European Council for two and a half years with the option to be re-elected for another term.
The re-nomination of the former Prime Minister of Poland tried to prevent the current Polish government, accusing Tusk in violation of the code of impartiality of international officials and interference in the internal Affairs of the country.
In addition, according to the Polish authorities, the procedure of election of the President of the European Council not developed enough.
In Warsaw believe that the candidates for this post should be nominated by member States of the EU, not the presidency of the Council of the EU.
The Polish government proposed as a candidate to replace Tusk, MEP Jacek Saryusz-Wolski, although in the capitals of member States of the EU this candidacy seriously nobody perceived.
