U.S. attorney General sent a letter explaining his meeting with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation

WASHINGTON, 7 Mar — RIA Novosti. U.S. attorney General Jeff sessions has sent Monday a letter to the Senate judiciary Committee with an explanation about his meetings with the Russian Ambassador to the USA Sergey Kislyak.

Earlier sessions were in the center of a scandal when it was revealed that he had met with the Russian Ambassador before the elections in 2016, but was not informed about these meetings with the approval of the office of attorney General. Currently in Congress are investigating the so-called “Russian intervention in elections in the United States,” to study the contacts of the team of President Donald trump with the Russian representatives.

In his letter to sessions again explains that he met with the Ambassador as a Senator, not a representative team of trump, and the contacts of the environment of the then candidate to the presidency he was not known. Thus, he responds to charges of perjury under oath, which is considered a crime in the US.

“I honestly answered the question, which concerned “the ongoing exchange of information during (election) campaigns between the environment trump and the mediators from the Russian government.” I didn’t mention the contacts that I had with the Russian Ambassador over the years, as the issue is not related to this,” — said in a letter to the attorney General.

Sessions confirmed that he had “a brief conversation” Kislyak in July at the Republican national Convention in Cleveland, but she had not touched the campaign.

The attorney General also reminds the senators that already recused himself in any investigation, “the Russian intervention” in U.S. elections.
