The President of Russia Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev. As reported on the Kremlin website, Putin, Nazarbayev expressed gratitude for the warm reception in Almaty on February 27.
The interlocutors continued the discussion of “some current issues in Russian-Kazakhstan cooperation, including in the energy sector”.
The two presidents exchanged views on the Syrian issue, in particular, in connection with the work carried out in the framework of the Geneva and Astana processes.
On January 23-24 in Astana held the first talks between the delegations of the armed opposition and the Syrian government under the mediation of Russia and Turkey.
The Russian delegation handed over to representatives of the armed Syrian opposition proposals for amendments to the Constitution of Syria. Following the meeting, Moscow, Tehran and Ankara agreed to establish a tripartite mechanism of control over observance of the truce.
