The Russian foreign Ministry did not expect the recall of the Ambassador of Moldova in Russia
The Moldovan government decided to withdraw its Ambassador from Russia Dmitry Braghis, who concurrently represents Moldova at the diplomatic level in Tajikistan. The decision came as a surprise to the Russian foreign Ministry, the reasons for such decisions, the Moldovan side calls. Now the corresponding order should be signed by the President Igor Dodon, which in Moldova is perceived as “Pro-Russian” policy.
The government of Moldova at the meeting on 1 March took the decision to recall the Ambassador of the Republic to Russia Dmitry Braghis, who was also a diplomatic representative of Moldova in Tajikistan.
The draft decision was presented by Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs and European integration (MFAEI) Daniela Morari, however, neither she nor the press service of the foreign Ministry of Moldova did not provide information about the reasons why the Moldovan Ambassador to Russia.
Later, Advisor on public relations of the foreign Minister of Moldova Anna Samson said the Ministry could not disclose the reasons for revocation Braghis from Moscow.
“We don’t want this information hurt bilateral relations or to the person in question” — quote Samson Moldovan media.
The legislation of Moldova provides that the corresponding decree of the Cabinet of Ministers will enter into force after the signature of the President Igor Dodon.
Thus in the Russian foreign Ministry the decision of the Moldovan authorities called unexpected.
“This news is somewhat unexpected”, — TASS quoted Deputy foreign Minister Grigory Karasin.
At the moment I wonder what position will President Igor Dodon. On the one hand, Moldova is a parliamentary Republic in which powers are distributed in such a way that the legislature plays a leading role in the political processes of the country, the President performs mainly representative functions. On the other, the current President is not a typical head of Moldavia, as it was in years past.
A Pro-Russian President and the European Parliament
Igor Dodon was elected at the end of 2016 from the Socialist party. It is noteworthy that it was the first direct popular election of the President, who was elected deputies. Of Dodona in the Republic of Moldova is considered to be “Pro-Russian” politician. In his campaign statements, he has repeatedly given rise to find evidence of its commitment to political dialogue with Moscow.
His first foreign visit as head of Moldova Igor Dodon has made it to Russia, where he met with President Vladimir Putin. Then the two leaders during the press approach talked about the fact that Moscow and Chisinau are ready to develop partnership relations, which in recent years had not the best times, although more specific information about any arrangements were not entered.
“I was on the events during the last visit of Dodona in Moscow. Then he would say things that definitely fit in the Pro-Russian agenda. For example, talked about the necessity of a speedy accession of Moldova to the Eurasian economic Union, — said “Газете.Ru” Vladimir Yevseyev, the Deputy Director of the Institute of CIS countries. — The expulsion of the Ambassador is quite unexpected.”
However, the expert stressed that today the political situation in Moldova is unpredictable, as is the apparent division within the leadership of the country.
On the one hand, Dodon configured to interact with Russia and deepen cooperation. On the other hand, a Parliament, which is opposed to the President and actually deprived it of many rights. Dodon really need re-election to redistribute the balance of power in their favor.Vladimir Unseizability of the Institute of CIS countries
“During the January visit, the announcement in Moscow, the Russian authorities have shown they are ready to increase contacts with him. Likely, it could cause irritation at his political rivals,” — said Yevseyev.
On February 26 the President of Moldova addressed to the ambassadors of the United States and Romania in Chisinau, Moldova James Pettit and Daniel Ionita — an open letter. It contained a demand “to stop interfering in the internal Affairs of Moldova.” This was the response of Dodona to the statement the two ambassadors, who expressed concern about the refusal of Moldova from joint exercises with the Alliance.
Also today, Igor Dodon at a press conference in Chisinau reported about the plans of the Russian side to spend “migratory Amnesty” for citizens of Moldova, reports TASS.
In Russia it was decided to proceed to immigration Amnesty for Moldovan citizens. This is one of the first results of our meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. I want to thank him for the prompt resolution of problems of Moldovan migrants.Igor Downpression Moldova
Immediately after the election of Dodona for the presidency, analysts said that the country can develop a political crisis because of the large political ambitions of the new President, who clearly does not want to perform a representative function. Dodon himself during the election campaign talked about the possibility of holding a referendum to extend the powers of the President. Therefore, experts say that between the decision to recall its Ambassador from Russia and the political opposition within the Republic of Moldova may be a connection.
