An amazing discovery was made by Turkish scientists. At the bottom of lake Iznik, located 125 kilometers from Istanbul, the researchers found the ruins of a Christian Church, built about 390 BC
It is noted that excavations near the lake was conducted since 2006, but still failed to find anything of value. A unique discovery was made possible thanks to satellite images, which were clearly visible the outlines of the Church under water. It is noteworthy that the ruins were located just 50 metres from the shore at a depth of 3 meters.

According to preliminary data, the Church was built around 390 BC when the city of Iznik was called Nicea, and Istanbul — Constantinople, was the Eastern center of the Roman Empire. It is believed that the temple was destroyed during an earthquake in the year 740.
