In Egypt have discovered the tomb with the 55 statues

Further excavations should lead archaeologists to the sarcophagus of the priest buried here.


The untouched tomb age 4400 years found in Egypt in the archaeological complex of Saqqara near Cairo, said Minister of antiquities, Khaled al-Anani.

The tomb was built for the “divine inspector” — a senior priest by the name of VATI Pharaoh Neferirkare that reigned in the middle of the 3rd Millennium BC. It has been preserved exceptionally well, said the Minister.

Length of the tomb — 10 m, width and height — 3 meters. It found 55 statues, many of them have kept their original color. Under the tomb is made of five hidden recesses, one of which may be the sarcophagus of Vathy.

The tomb has two levels with 24 statues on the upper level and 31 the statue at the bottom. Most of the statues depict people in natural size or deities. Some reach a height of 1 m. In the hieroglyphics found in the tomb, often referred to the mother and the wife of a priest.

In the tomb also survived by numerous colored drawings devoted to the preparation of food and drink, construction and other work.

December 17, archaeologists will start unearthing hidden niches. They hope to find the sarcophagus VATI and buried them with artifacts.
