In the state Duma introduced a bill banning the spread of fake news

The head of the Federation Council Committee on the legislation Andrey Klishas submitted to the state Duma a package of bills prohibiting to publish in the media and on the Internet false information that endanger the lives of citizens or mass disruption.

“Prohibits the dissemination in the media and in information-telecommunication networks of false public interest information disseminated under the guise of reliable reports, which poses a threat to life and (or) health of citizens, mass violations of public order and (or) public security, the cessation of the functioning of critical infrastructure, transport or social infrastructure, the onset of other grave consequences,” — said in the text of the bill posted in the automated system of ensuring legislative activity (ASASD).

Also in the state Duma a bill on amendments to the Code of administrative offences. For spreading false information in mass media the authors propose to introduce fines of 3-5 thousand rubles for citizens and from 400 thousand to 1 million rubles for companies with confiscation subject of an administrative offense.

“The proposed initiative continues the policy to ensure information security, protect the legitimate rights of the individual and society in the information sphere in accordance with the right to freedom of information”, — stated in the explanatory note to the bill.
