Green economy — a major global trend, which is gaining large momentum, the essence of which is the abandonment of a development model based on fossil fuels and fundamentally new approach to the organization of life. Whether it is a necessary measure? Definitely Yes — the rapid climate change caused by human activities has forced the authorities of the leading economies of the world to think about how to protect the planet, country, city and his family from impending disaster. Without the participation of the business community to solve this problem — it is impossible.

What steps should be taken to ensure that the global economy has become more “green” in the near future, participants discussed the Climate of the urban forum, held in Moscow on 6-7 September — government representatives, entrepreneurs, and leading experts-environmentalists, for whom the forum, despite his youth, has already become a significant discussion platform.

First day of the event was devoted to the analysis of the climate agenda of the modern city, the second — the participants talked about how to develop a partnership between business and government for the transition to an efficient low carbon economy.

The key indicator

“The word “climate” does not mean the beginning of a highly specialized environmental conversation. Just the climate today is the indicators of “top-level” indicators of the resource efficiency of the economy as a whole”, — said during the plenary session the head of the Department of natural resources and environmental protection of the city of Moscow Anton Kulbachevsky.

Rapid climate change led to the need to take international action for the protection of the environment, and in the future, such measures may become mandatory for all, said the participants of the forum. To date, 180 countries agreed on the need for coordination to keep the growth surface temperature within 2 degrees Celsius, and, consequently, about the reduction of financial flows in accordance with a trajectory characterized by low levels of greenhouse gas emissions, told the plenary session moderator, member of General Council of “Business Russia” Oleg Pluzhnikov.

Where to get funding for the transition of these economies to a low carbon economy?

According to the world Bank, to move to the economy-oriented low-carbon development to 2030-mu to year will require about $ 700 billion of investment and about one-third of this amount should come from the system of regulation of emissions.

Many countries have gone the way of regulation of the environmental situation and pollution control. In this field everything is changing so rapidly that in the short term, those countries and those companies that do not regulate emissions, are not members of the Paris agreement (or do not share its principles), do not disclose information about their climate risks and how to reduce them, can fall under the trade restrictions.

In particular, according to Oleg Pluzhnikov, the EU has claimed that trade agreements will not be concluded with those countries that do not follow the principles of the Paris agreement. Today a number of companies that hide information on climate risks, are not able to be traded on exchanges. As 2017 was presented to the G20 recommendations on the disclosure of information that summarize all currently accepted best practices and standards in the field of ecology, and now twenty countries forced to switch to the new reporting format, including a description of climate risks.
