The EU Council extended for a year sanctions against Crimea and Sevastopol

The EU Council has extended for 12 months the sanctions in respect of Crimea and Sevastopol. The decision on the extension of unilateral measures was adopted at the Ministerial meeting on agriculture and fisheries of the 28 EU countries in Luxembourg.

Republic of Crimea and city of Sevastopol became part of Russia following a referendum on March 16, 2014. The European Union and many other participating countries the results of the vote are not recognized and imposed against Russia, a number of restrictive measures.

Sanctions against Crimea and Sevastopol include a ban on the import of goods, investment, tourism, export of certain goods and technologies. The last time the restrictive measures were extended in July of last year, the validity period was to expire on 23 June 2018.
