Morozov: raising the retirement age is long overdue

Complex changes are already overdue, the head of the Committee. He reminded that Russia is home to just under 150 million people, of which about 46.5 million — are pensioners.

The head of the Committee also reported that on June 18 the state Duma held a round table meeting to discuss the status of doctor, legal protection, professional liability, social security.

“We will also discuss the guarantee of early retirement, generally I think this topic should be discussed in relation to each category of citizens, in particular with regard to the medical staff,” — said Morozov.

The government has proposed to raise the age of retirement in Russia to 65 years for men and 63 for women. The reform will be phased and will start in 2019, said Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev.
