Scientists have found a way of treating diabetes with your smartphone
MOSCOW, 30 Jul — RIA Novosti. Chinese and Swiss scientists have developed technology to monitor blood sugar levels using mobile apps. The study is published in the journal Science Translational Medicine.
Biologists conducted an experiment on mice with diabetes. Rodents implanted cells that help produce insulin and other hormones to regulate the amount of glucose in the blood. Cells begin to produce a substance under the influence of waves of a certain length — far-red light.
Before implantation cells and red LEDs placed in the hydrogel shell. Using the app on the smartphone, the researchers monitored the intensity and duration of the radiation, thereby determining the amount produced by cells of the hormones.
Using this semi-automatic system, the level of glucose in the blood of the mice was maintained at the level required for diabetes.
Scientists believe that the technology developed by them demonstrates the great potential of treatment based on transplantation of cells
