Lavrov: Russia will insist on the urgent sending of OPCW experts in Syria

Russia will insist on the urgent sending of experts from the Organization for the prohibition of chemical weapons (OPCW) on the scene in Idlib and the Syrian air base at Shayrat. This was stated by foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov at a press conference following the meeting with the Minister of foreign Affairs of Qatar, Mohammed Rahman al-Thani.

“We consider it necessary to conduct a thorough, objective, impartial and professional investigation and will be in the framework of the OPCW and in new York, at the UN, to insist on immediately send inspectors to the place of incident and on the airfield itself, where, according to our Western colleagues, were filled with shells with chemical agents,” Lavrov said.

He also noted that the extended mission of the OPCW and the independent experts must have full access to the place of incident in Idlib and to the base Shirt.

Earlier, foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov said that there is increasing evidence that the incident with chemical weapons in the Syrian Idlib was staged.
