The Prosecutor’s office checks the data “the New newspaper” about the persecution of gays in Chechnya

MOSCOW, April 17 — RIA Novosti. Prosecutors and other law enforcement bodies of Chechnya organized inspection after the publication in “Novaya Gazeta” about the alleged mass abduction in the country, informs the press service of the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation at the request of RIA Novosti.

In the beginning of April, “Novaya Gazeta” has published an article which said about the mass detention in Chechnya residents based on sexual orientation. Press Secretary of the head of Chechnya, Alvi Karimov denied the information of the newspaper and stated that the Republic of men “only one orientation”, as evidenced by the high birth rate.

On the website of the newspaper later published a statement in which it was told about the threats to the address of the publisher. Editor-in-chief Muratov in conversation with RIA Novosti noted that the editors very rarely complains about the conditions of their work, but in this case the threat level “above the level of danger that can take on any media.”

“The Prosecutor General’s office received requests of the Commissioner for human rights in Russia Moskalkova tn. and edition “the New newspaper” in fact the alleged mass kidnapping in Chechnya. At present, the procuratorial authorities of the Chechen Republic and law enforcement bodies of the region checks on the fact of alleged abduction of people”, — stated in the response Department.

Thus in the document it is noted that Moskalkova in his request asked to clarify only, whether in GP RF an appeal from “the New newspaper”.

Previously the Council at the head of the Chechen Republic on development of civil society and human rights stated that it is not even found circumstantial evidence of “Novaya Gazeta”. In a statement, the HRC emphasizes that in Chechnya appreciate human life”, regardless of racial, national, religious and other peculiarities of the personality”.

Earlier, the chief editor of “Novaya Gazeta” Dmitry Muratov asked the Russian Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika with a demand to compel the Investigative Committee to check on the article. Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said that the bodies of internal Affairs will also check this information.
