Russian scientists have created eternal “anticaries” nanobomby

MOSCOW, 5 APR — RIA Novosti. Scientists from the “MISIS” and a number of other Russian research centres has created a special nanomaterial that when added to the filling prevents the development of caries and forever protects the tooth from germs, the press service of the University.

“This development is, in fact, the technological revolution in dentistry. Antibacterial additive can be used not only in the fillings, and other dental materials, prolonging the service life of the implants. In our clinic the preparation is successfully used since September of 2016,” says James Tarasenkov, chief doctor of the clinic “Rosdent” and member of the project.

Tarasenkov and a number of Russian scientists under the leadership of George Frolov, associate Professor nust “MISIS”, studied the properties of very small nanoparticles consisting of oxides of titanium, iron, zinc and several other metals. The experiments with the domestic chemists and physicians, have shown that these nanoparticles kill bacteria even at very low concentrations, acting on them like antibiotics or enzymes that the body uses to kill germs.

The addition of these nanoparticles in fillings and other dental materials, as Frolov says, solves one of the major problems faced by all visitors to dental — loss of fillings, and caries at the point where the seal comes into contact with the tissue of the tooth.

As the scientists explain, even with all the technological procedures on the border of the seal over time form a micro gap, which actively breed bacteria. In addition, tissues of the tooth and the material of the seal in different ways repel water, which also creates problems when it is installed, and with the continued “life” in the part of the tooth.

Add in the seal of the nanoparticles, constantly protecting its edges from microbes, can solve this problem forever in fact, since the nanoparticles are not destroyed in the destruction of the microbes.

These nanoparticles, as Frolov says, is already used in practice, not only in the clinic, “Rosdent”, but in the Kirov state medical Academy. Fillings based on these nanoparticles have been approved by the Roszdravnadzor and commercial companies are already applying them in their work.
