Continued: Putin held a meeting on the Land of Franz-Joseph
President Vladimir Putin during the visit to the archipelago Franz-Joseph glacier-carved from several pieces. It is reported TASS on Wednesday, March 29.
The Russian leader showed the ice cave, which allows to study the phenomenon of permafrost. Putin with ice pick cut a few pieces of ice blocks and delivered them to the researchers after that took a walk through the cave.
With the help of air bubbles inside these fragments, scientists can analyze the composition of the atmosphere, which has been on Earth a few hundred years ago, said the Agency.
The President was accompanied by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and the Minister of natural resources Sergey Donskoy.
Earlier Wednesday it was reported that Putin flew to the Franz Josef to see the results of liquidation of environmental damage.
The archipelago is a part of Arkhangelsk region. Franz-Joseph is located in the Arctic ocean, consists of 192 Islands with a total area of over 16 thousand square kilometers.
